VANITAS VANITATUM

The Continuo Collective is going to Rome (figuratively speaking)! We are going to spend the year exploring the theme of Vanitas and other such notions of morality and mortality. We will look at works by Carissimi (Vanitas Vanitatum I & II), Landi, Cavalieri, related pieces like the Passacaglia della vita, Ciaccona di Paradiso, and possibly contrafacta of madrigals by Monteverdi and others. We are going to return our attention to the ornamented psalms, falso bordonne, and other forms of improvised practice in the early Baroque.
This subject will serve for both semesters; whatever we do in the Spring will go to Boston for our by now traditional and always popular BEMF 2009 fringe appearance.
This is our 10th Anniversary, so expect that we will make some sort of hullabaloo to celebrate this milestone!
We will start on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at St Luke's Lutheran Church, 306 West 46th between 8th and 9th Avenues. We meet from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Tuition will be $350 per semester, with scholarships available to anyone who cannot afford to pay in part or in full.
We have the following dates already booked:
Two Wednesday Midtown Concerts at St. Barts, December 10, 2008 and April 22, 2009, both at 1:15 p.m.
